Old Fashioned Pie and Ice Cream Social
We like to mark the end the summer with the annual Old Fashioned Pie and Ice Cream Social on the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center grounds.
Our guest author this year is Cary J. Griffith. Cary will be available to sign his latest book “Gunflint Burning – Fire in the Boundary Waters”.
The North Shore Swing Band will be on the front porch of Chik-Wauk Lodge to get us in the mood starting at 12:30 and going until 2 pm.
As always, there will be lots of locally homemade pies to choose from. There is a suggested donation of $5 per slice of pie, ice cream and beverage.
This day also features the annual Chik-Wauk “sidewalk” sale which offers steep discounts on many gift shop items. It will be a fun way to wrap up the summer and say “so long till next year,” to our friends and neighbors.
Do you have some used cookbooks you don’t use anymore. Bring them along for the cookbook rummage sale.
All proceeds help with the daily operational costs of the Museum and Nature Center.

Saturday Afternoon Presentation
Local author Staci Drouillard will be joining us at Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center to talk about her current writings and share some insights about Early European Contact with the Ojibwe on the Gunflint Trail.
Staci’s grandfather, Fred Drouillard and grandmother, Lola had worked at Chik-Wauk Resort in the 1930's and 1940's. Fred was a fishing guide on Saganaga Lake and Lola cooked three meals a day at the resort. Fred and Lola would spend every summer at Chik-Wauk living in the Raven's Nest cabin. Staci’s father, Francis, started work as a bait and dock helper at Chik-Wauk and by the age of 16, was working as a fishing guide alongside his dad.
Staci has earned a BA degree in Native American Studies from University of MN Twin Cities, and a Master of Liberal Studies from University of MN Duluth.
